The President's Corner

President - Ray Beacham A Word of Thanks !

I personally want to thank all the people who pitch-in every year to keep things going, such as our annual fly-ins, the mowing crew and those involved in pond repair and maintenance.

It takes a 'first-class team' to keep our club working as well as it does and I'm here to tell you that 'our team' is second to none!

However, there are a lot of members in this club who aren't recognized as much as they should be for their efforts.

I personally want you to know your contributions ARE noticed, and you are all greatly appreciated !
Ray Beacham

The Short History of Nwrc Club & Cypress Creek Flying Field

Piper Super Cub"We Have Arrived, March, 2002"

Those that have been a member of Nwrcc for a number of years, will remember that period of time during which we lost our previous flying field (just off FM-529 but closer to FM-1960). Our lease was cancelled by the owners with less than a month's notice. There were some at the time who said that 'it was over' and left Nwrcc to join other area clubs. To them, being in the Club meant only having a place to fly. We most definitely had no place to fly, therefore to them, Nwrcc as a club was finished. But there were a lot more of us who weren't willing to abandon the group of friends known as the Nwrc Club. So we kept coming to meetings every 2nd. Thursday night, quickly formulated a plan, and by the time a year had passed, made the plan work. That very ambitious plan was to actually BUY our own flying site. We figured, "what's the point of signing yet another lease that can/will eventually be terminated?". At that time, and even now, it was very rare that local R/C clubs in any city are able to put together the resources necessary to do what we did. I'll keep the story short by simply saying that we did it. Big time! Well, the dream has reached the next step. The flying site is now PAID OFF! Perhaps this isn't really the culmination of the dream, but only the 'official' realization of it. After all, some thought we were dreaming several years ago when the topic of discussion at meetings turned to buying our own flying field. So congratulations to all of you in the Club who kept the dream alive, and most notably to several members of the original group who have passed away since including three who were a very positive influence during that time; Jim Read, Jim Weaver and Duane Guy. So in the future when you crunch an airplane into the runway, don't just comment disappointedly that you have crashed and lost an expensive airplane. You have earned the right as an Nwrcc member to proudly say to those around you: "We have arrived !"

Site Back To Normal(Almost)
NetworkWell it has taken many days and several exchanges with our host but the site (as it was), is back online. There will be bugs here and there that I will work on as I get to them. Sorry for the inconveniences folks. At least our entire user-base has been restored!

Upgrade To PHP-Fusion Version 7.0 Complete!
Software

It has taken longer than expected but the system upgrade to PHP-Fusion version 7.0 is now complete. Thank you for your patience during this maintenance period.

Change Is In The Air !
PHP-Fusion

The winds of change are beginning to blow. Sometime in June (3 or 4 weeks), PHPFusion will release the long awaited version 7 of their phpFusion content management system. There will necessarily be some transition lag as I upgrade our system accordingly. I will keep you posted and updated on the progress. This change/upgrade is necessary and will address most if not all of the current quirks we are experiencing, mainly our 'new user registration' problem. I will announce a specific date when the transition will begin.

UPDATE !

This is a 'heads up' to all club members. Preparations are almost complete for our website upgrade to the latest version of our CMS system. Once I begin, the site should be down for no more than a few hours. I plan to do it in the wee hours of the morning so there should be minimal impact to our users. Keep an eye on these news items for further updates on the actual timeframe.

New Downloads Added
Downloads

Well, we finally have some downloads available. Lots of nifty RC modeling utilities, especially for the scratch builder. A few are trial versions but most are freeware. More downloads will be added as time goes by.

Site transition in progress
News

We are pleased to announce that the transition of our website to PHP format is well underway. It is a time consuming process and I expect it to take a couple of weeks to complete so please bare with me folks as I bring us into the modern era of content management systems.

Update!!

Our site transition to PHP-Fusion CMS system is now 100% complete.
